freedom to discover and serve Jesus

ok…so here’s the skinny … the details … the plan … what’s happenin’… in

Senior High (Grades 9-12)

Sunday MorningsWorship and Learning 9:00-10:15 am.

These mornings are focused on COMMUNION.
There will be a predominantly youth led worship time in the Gym together from 9-9:30 followed by a Bible-focused lesson. For the lessons, the group will be split up into 2 groups; Grades 9-10 and Grades 11-12. Sunday morning lessons will follow the themes being taught in the Sanctuary, in order to keep the whole church family focused on the same theme. We hope this will help facilitate common ground for discussion at home and will include our youth in the larger WMB community.

Senior High Small Group Ministry

Groups of youth meet in member’s homes weekly during the school year, focusing on COMMUNION and COMMUNITY. These groups are led by adults and meet weekly on any given night. Each group is unique, but shares a focus on Word, Worship, Prayer, and Fellowship—the structure of the early church. Small group time consists of teaching from God’s Word, discussions of life through the filter of faith, prayer, and fun times

Each year there is a need to develop some new groups and leaders as we grow. This year, we will be spending more time with the small group leaders discussing small group methods, possible resources and focuses, and communication expectations for small group leaders in the WMB Youth Ministry. Looking for an opportunity to build into young lives? Contact Pete Olsen or Stephanie White in the church office.

Senior High Midweek Ministry

Midweek activities will take on a whole new flavour this coming year with the main focus being on MISSION. The first Friday of each month starting in October, we will gather and celebrate our faith in worship, testimonies and stories, and share food together with a focus on COMMUNITY. Then, each following week, there will be scheduled service opportunities on different nights in different locations as listed below. More opportunities may come up for smaller groups to serve at (Crossroads cleanup, St. Jamestown, Pinehaven, etc.)

Week 1FRIDAY NIGHT GATHERING IN THE GYM – 7:00-9:00pm
This is a time of COMMUNITY when we will gather together, have a time of worship, speaking, stories as to where God is at work in our lives and our serving ministries, some food and some fun. See Acts 2:42-47.

Week 2MCC Warehouse, “Generations Thrift Store”, WEDNESDAYS – 7:00-9:00pm
This is a time of MISSION when we serve an MCC ministry in our area. We will help sort donations, test electronics and basically help this ministry. The Thrift Store offers a friendly, caring presence in the community, and is a great place to volunteer our time. The Thrift store generates income that is used to support the mission of the Mennonite Central Committee.

Week 3OASIS in Kitchener. TUESDAYS from 6:00 to 10:00pm
This is a time of MISSION when we serve the poor in our community. Oasis is located behind the Morning Glory Café (256 King St. East) and is a Christian drop-in centre that serves the homeless or otherwise disadvantaged. Oasis serves supper, offers food hampers, toiletries, used clothing and shower and laundry facilities. Oasis is also a place for guests to hang out and sit and talk with the volunteers. Our youth will help by assisting the regular team of staff & volunteers through serving the guests. We will be taking care of the supper component of that evening monthly and fellowshipping with the Oasis Guests. See Matthew 25:31-46.
Those wishing to serve in this ministry must meet once with Pete/Steph and sign a volunteer Code of Conduct Agreement.

Week 4Kingscourt Sports/Homework Club with children, or Neighbourhood Service THURSDAYS …Time TBA
This is a time of MISSION when we serve our neighbourhood. Kingscourt is a neighbouring community close to Conestoga Mall that WMB has a relationship with. In partnership with WMB’s Barnabas Ministry, we will be developing a ministry and relationships with kids and families in the Kingscourt area. This will include field sports and other activities. This is still in development. Look for updates as to what’s happening Week 4!

Regarding Mission Serving please note:
These serving events will be developed in such a way as to build relationships with communities or agencies already serving in our community and partnering with them when it is convenient for them and on a regular basis if we can. This means that we will be flexible to their needs. It also means that youth who can’t serve on one specific night of the week will have opportunities to serve on another week.
Some of the other agencies or areas of opportunity we will be looking into will include: (external) Working Centre and St. Johns Soup Kitchen, 10,000 Villages Warehouse, Out f the Cold, Pinehaven Nursing Home, Food Banks in Kitchener or Elmira. (internal) Barnabas, GO Mission, M4E and Drives for food/ clothing/ mission supplies, involvement in church services and events as servants.

Calendars for these serves are posted on the youth bulletin board and in each youth room. As well calendars will be included in the hard copy of the "Youth Ministry Kit" that will be available to everyone involved in youth ministry here at WMB.

Other considerations:
There are some Sunday mornings where youth will be invited to join in the Sanctuary for the larger services. These would include special services and celebration services. There may also be some Sundays where the youth will be invited to come to the Forum in the Chapel. We are hoping, as well, to develop the portable space into something more inviting and to give this ministry a name. Mid week programs will not run during times when school is out for holidays.
